8oot Logo Changer is a legacy, free customization utility created by a developer named vhanla on DeviantArt. It allows users to replace the default Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 boot logo (the standard blue window pane flag) with any custom image.
Because modern operating systems require strict file integrity, the tool utilizes advanced system tweaks that make it an expert-only utility. 🛠️ How It Works
The standard Windows boot logo is not a simple loose image file; it is embedded deeply inside a critical system library.
Modifies bootres.dll: The tool extracts a file called bootres.dll (located in C:\Windows\Boot\Resources), injects a custom 24-bit bitmap image adjusted to six different internal sizes, and rebuilds the file.
Requires Test Signing Mode: Windows normally blocks modified system files from running during boot for security. To bypass this, 8oot Logo Changer forces the user to turn on Windows TESTSIGNING mode and installs a local test certificate so the system accepts the modified library.
Built-in Watermark Remover: Enabling Test Signing mode forces Windows to display an annoying “Test Mode” watermark text in the bottom right corner of your desktop. The tool includes a built-in patcher to modify shell32.dll.mui and basebrd.dll.mui to hide that watermark. ⚠️ System Compatibility & Limitations
