The Elephant’s Journey (originally published in Portuguese as A Viagem do Elefante) is a 2008 historical fiction novel by the Portuguese Nobel Laureate José Saramago. It was the second-to-last novel published during his lifetime and stands out as one of his lightest, most whimsical, and humorous works.
The book is based on the true historical event of an Asian elephant traveling across Europe in 1551.
